Russell's Story
After I graduated from Warren Easton, I enlisted in the Air Force. Went to basic training, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, June-Aug., 1968. From there I went to tech-school, Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS Aug. 68' graduated from morse-intercept radio school as a morse systems radio operator, Jan., 69' and went to Kelly AFB, back in S.A., TX. Stayed there until I got orders to report to Da Nang, South Vietnam, Sept., 1970. Stayed there til March, 71, when my unit was part of the phase-out and we relocated to Udorn, Thailand where I stayed and finished my 1-year tour of duty. Went to Bangkok, Thailand for R&R. nnie who graduated from Fortier same year (1968), and we were married, Aug., 26th, 1972. We moved from New Orleans, both of us grew up in the Irish Channel, and have been living in Metaire ever since. We have two children, a son and daughter, and two grand-children. I retired, Aug., 2006 after a 38 year government career, working in the drafting department as a carto-graphic/visual information specialist. I also retired, from the Air Force Reserve, April, 2000, after a 31 year military career, both active-duty and active Guard/Reserve time. I'm enjoying retirement and both my wife and I enjoy being grand-parents (MeMe & Poppa) as our grand-daughter & grandson call us. We will be celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary this August 26, 2022.
